The Chateau

The castle dates from the 12th century, the height of this region when the front line between the French and English battalions was here during the Hundred Years War. In 1204, Pope Clement IV spent five nights at Château Barayre. In those times the castle used to be much bigger and supposedly flanked by a monasterie. The castle is full of unique spaces, hidden corners and details. There are stories about an underground a tunnel that linked to a neighboring castle, fallen towers, dungeons under the herb garden, secret vaults...

We have are working on various renovations projects so in the near future we can again use spaces that haven't been used for decades, or longer. We are working together with local artisans and using both old and new sustainable techniques and materials. Missing the pool? Yes, thats right! The magnificent 300 year old Ceder tree, the pond, the terrace. It’s lovely intimate here; a small private concert, an unforgettably romantic wedding ceremony, your Sunday morning brunch or reception with band on the terrace. What do you imagine?

The Garden

Have your morning coffee with a view over the castle garden, organize a wine tasting, have a brunch with your intimate guests staying in the castle or use the terras as a stage for the band during your reception.

The Terrace

A stunning 17th-century barn that has been renovated with natural materials to maintain its authentic character. The barn has taken on many forms from dinner space, yoga training center to a concert hall.

Overlooking the front lawn, the inner courtyard contains a stunning array of flowers and herbs. Catch the last sun rays from summer to winter or cut a few herbs to spice up your soup. The central well, might have been the main reason why the castle was located here.

Inner Courtyard

For hundreds of years this has been a place of gathering. With tall trees offering shade for afternoon teas and hanging lights for long tables of friends, this is the central place for your party. For our summer guests, this is where we have our crepe’s and galettes evening!

The Front Lawn

Just 80 meters up the hill lies the Church of Envals. Once part of the castle, it now is public property. The roman church fits 120 people and is a beautiful intimate setting for your wedding. Very special; the church allows both religious and nonreligious ceremonies.
